Orabs Drop Two To Lions

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Central Lyon swept Sheldon on Senior night in Rock Rapids, Lions won the girls game 75-50 and the nightcap to the Lions boys in comeback fashion 68-59.

The girls game started out quickly for Central Lyon behind 8 points in the quarter from Hayden Heimensen but the Orabs would battle back and only trail 16-13 after quarter one. Lions defense would force a few turnovers on the Orabs and expand the lead at half to 35-25. The Lions came out on fire in the third quarter behind Heimensen’s 15 points and would surge to a 65-34 lead after three. The Lions would cruise to the 75-50 victory.

Central Lyon was led by three players in double figures led by Heimensen’s game high 30 points, followed with 14 from Kiley Metzger and 11 from Sutton Schlumbohm. The Orabs had two players in double figures led by Maliah Kleinhesselink’s 13 points followed by Makenna Kleinhesselink’s 11.

The Lions improved to 14-4 on the season and 13-3 in the conference and the Orabs fell to 5-14 on the season and 4-13 in the conference.

The boys game started out close throughout the first quarter with Sheldon able to maintain a 13-12 lead after one. The Orabs led through the whole second quarter and were able to push out to a 28-23 halftime lead. After intermission the Orabs would maintain the defensive pressure and extend their lead to 45-37 heading into the final stanza. The Lions came out on fire in the final frame nailing 6 three pointers and going 9-10 from the free throw line and outscored the Orabs 31-14 to come from behind and win 68-59.

The Lions had three players in double figures led by Zach Lutmer with 16 points, 15 points from Addison Metzger and 14 from Cole Hoogendorn. The Orabs had three players in double figures with 14 a piece form Kaleb Ackerman and Jordan Jefferies and 12 points from Mitchel Wolf.

The Lions improve to 8-9 overall and 6-9 in the conference and the Orabs fall to 5-13 overall and 4-11 in the conference.

Next up for the Orabs is a home contes on Friday as West Lyon comes to town and the Lions will host Hills-Beaver Creek at home Thursday night.
