Western Splits Doubleheader With Titans

Hull, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack and Tea Area Titans split a basketball doubleheader in Hull Tuesday night. The girls game went to Tea Area in an overtime thriller 73-71, and the Western boys cruised to a 59-38 win.

In the girls game Tea had 15-10 lead after the first quarter, but Western started the second quarter off hot and took a 28-26 lead heading into halftime. Western extended their lead at the end of the third to 42-38. Both teams continued to battle three pointers began fall for the Titans. At the end of regulation, it was tied 64-64. In the extra frame, Tea took a quick lead, while Western battled back. Down 73-71, Western’s last attempt was stolen away, and Tea prevailed 73-71.

The Titans had three players in double figures. Team high honors went to Bailey Conrad with 31, Sam Kloos added 21, and Desirae Patzwald put in 10. Western got a game high 31 from Olivia Granstra, Abby Postma put in eleven, and Madison Vis added ten from the bench.

With the win, Tea Area improves to 9-2 on the year, Western falls to 12-7.

In the boys game Western used a strong start to get the win.

Western jumped out to a 17-9 lead after one, and took a 36-13 lead into halftime. The Titans as a team shot 1/17 from beyond the arc in the first half, and 6 of 31 overall. Western maintained their lead after three at 45-27, and went on to win 59-38.

Western got a game high 23 from Ty Van Essen, Dawson Feenstra put in 12, while Wyatt Gulker added ten. Feenstra and Gulker missed the last two games for the Wolfpack due to illness.

As a team Western shot 51.3% from the field.
With the win, Western improves to 14-3 on the year, Tea Area falls to 8-6.

Up next for Western is a road contest at Storm Lake.
