Orabs Sweep Generals

OrabsThe Sheldon Orab basketball teams swept Sibley Ocheydan Friday night in a conference doubleheader in Sibley. The girls final was 48-32 with Sheldon taking the boys game 68-40.

In the girls game Sheldon led at all the breaks 13-10 at the end of the first quarter and 26-20 at halftime. A three at the buzzer by the Generals Britta Harberts kept the lead at six points 36-30 at the end of the third quarter. Sheldon was able to take control in the fourth quarter and post the win 48-32.

Sheldon had two players in double figures with Kelsey Den Hartog hitting for a game high 17 points. Emily Johnson joined her hitting for 15 points. Both were able to hit from long distance with Den Hartog knocking down 4-threes and Johnson adding a trio of her own. Britta Harberts hit 3 three-point buckets on route to an 11 point night.

With the win Sheldon improves to 5-6 on the year and 4-6 in the conference while Sibley Ocheyedan stands at 0-11 for the season and 0-10 in the conference.

In the boys game Sheldon turned a 15-10 first quarter advantage into a 30-13 halftime lead. An 11 point third quarter by Evan Mehls cut the lead to single digits only to see the Orabs regain control and take a 43-28 lead at the end of the third quarter before claiming the win 68-40.

Mehls would finish with a game high 19 points including five 3-point buckets. Sheldon had three players in double figures led by Ian Jongewaard with 13, Collin Wolthizen with 12 and Turner DeJong with 10.

With the win Sheldon improves to 8-2 on the year and 7-2 in the conference. Sibley Ocheyedan falls to 2-9 on the year and 2-7 in the conference. Non conference games are next for both teams as Sibley Ocheyedan plays host to LeMars Gehlen on Monday. On Tuesday Sheldon travels to Spencer for a double header.
