Peterson, Sikkink Pick Up Wins On Red Raider Wrestling Senior Night

Orange City, Iowa — Chase Peterson and Bennett Sikkink both picked up wins competing in their final matches at the Bultman Center in Northwestern’s 26-19 loss to Hastings in the final dual of the regular season for both teams.

Both teams finish 3-5 and in a three-way tie for fifth place in the GPAC; Northwestern drops to 7-5 in duals overall.

Peterson, Sikkink and teammate Reid Seelhammer, the three seniors on the 2020-21 Northwestern wrestling team, were recognized the Raider coaches and fans prior to the match.

Peterson hung on for a 3-2 decision win at 149, improving to 7-4 this season. Tied 1-1 heading into the third period, Peterson picked up two points with about 50 seconds left and held off Riley Dement in the final seconds.

Sikkink picked up an 11-0 major decision win over Evan Morara at 197 and earned his 11th win of the season.

Manuel Jaramillo (133), Luke Jenness (184) and Chris Van Der Brink (285) all won their respective matches. Jaramillo rushed out to a 6-1 lead but had to fight off a late rally from Andy Rojas to get his third win of the season. Van Der Brink dominated his match at 285 from start to finish.

Northwestern will send 11 wrestlers to compete at the Sioux City / Dave Edmonds Open in the final tune-up prior to the GPAC Championships on Feb. 19-20.
