Points Off Takeaways Key In Nighthawks Win

Sioux Center, Iowa — The #3 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks used 28 points off 3 takeaways and blocked punt to get the 48-16 win over district foe Sioux Center Friday night at Open Space Park in Sioux Center.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley got off to a quick start. On the first play from scrimmage Landyn Van Kekerix found Caleb Kats down the seem for the 66 yard touchdown pass to give BHRV the early 6-0 lead. Sioux Center answered on the next drive going 62 yards down the field and Zach Rozeboom found Brett Schouten for the 21 yard score to tie the game at 6-6 with 9:40 left in the first quarter. Later in the first, BHRV returned a Sioux Center punt to the Warrior 35, and a few plays later scored on an Landyn Van Kekerix 10 yard run to make it 13-6 late in the opening frame.

After a botched Warrior handoff, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley capitalized on the short field, going 42 yards on the drive capped off by the Van Kekerix 2 yard plunge to make it 20-6. An errant pass by Rozeboom picked off by Caleb Kats was brought back to the Sioux Center 9, and a couple plays later on 4th down, Kats was on the receiving end of a 2 yard touchdown pass from Tanner Te Slaa. Sioux Center would go three and out on their next possession but the punt was blocked giving the Nighthawks the ball at the Warrior 18. On the next play, Kats would take the 18 yard pass from Te Slaa for the score to make it 34-6. Sioux Center finally got some offense going late in the first half when Rozeboom to the three yard keeper for the score to pull within 34-13. On the next drive BHRV answered with a 50 yard catch and run by Sam Remmerde to make it 41-13 heading into the half.

Sioux Centers first possession of the second half would end on an interception in the endzone by the Nighthawks’ Chase Sassman. BHRV would march 80 yards down the field and Cade Fisher found the endzone from 3 yards out with 6:08 left in the third.

Sioux Center would add a 30 yard field goal from Miguel Gonzalez early in the fourth, but BHRV would come away with the 48-16 win.

With the win Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in district play. BHRV will visit Sergeant Bluff-Luton next week. Sioux Center falls to 2-4 on the year and 0-2 in districts. Sioux Center will host Heelan next week.
