Raider Volleyball Overpowers No.20 Viterbo In 3-0 Sweep

Orange City, Iowa — No.7 Northwestern College overpowered No.20 Viterbo for a 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-18) win in a non-conference volleyball match played Thursday at the Bultman Center.

The Raiders, idle since Nov. 14, improved to 16-3 this season; Viterbo had its eight-match win streak snapped and falls to 10-7.

Northwestern led from start to finish and hit .542 in a dominating 25-11 win in set one

Tied 14-14 in set two, Makenzie Fink put away consecutive kills to give her team the lead for good

Still just a one-point lead (20-19), Northwestern scored five of the final six points, led by the serving of Taylor Meyer and strong attack from Fink, who put away two more kills to close out the set

Tied 6-6 in the final set, Northwestern began a decisive 9-1 run to separate from Viterbo. Strong serving by Jadeyn Schutt and Lacey Reitz coupled with five kills from Anna Wedel (3) and Emily Van Ginkel (2) provided the spark.

Northwestern hit .351 compared to .091 by Viterbo, and the Raiders had the edge in blocks (8-3) and aces (4-2).

Fink led Northwestern with 10 kills in 14 attacks, hitting .643 over the three sets, and Wedel and Van Ginkel put away nine and eight kills, respectively. Lacey Reitz put up 33 assists and served two aces. Olivia Granstra (12) and Emily Strasser (11) were in double figures in digs. Bekah Horstman led the Raiders with six blocks.

Maya Roberts led Viterbo with eight kills and Abby Johnson totaled 16 assists
