Red Raider Women Put Win Streak On The Line This Weekend

Orange City, Iowa — The Northwestern College women’s basketball team puts its eight-game win streak on the line when they host Mount Marty for a GPAC match-up this weekend. Tip-off at the Bultman Center is scheduled for 2pm.

Northwestern has won eight straight, 13 of its last 15, to move up to third in the current GPAC standings with a 13-5 record, 13-8 overall; Mount Marty sits in 11th place in the GPAC with a 2-17 record, 4-18 overall.

Earlier This Season, Sammy Blum scored a game-high 22 points in leading the Raiders to an 88-66 road win against Mount Marty on Jan. 6 in Yankton, S.D. Leading 44-29 at haltime, Northwestern outscored the Lancers 26-10 in a decisive third quarter.

Northwestern shot 56% from the field and held a commanding 39-24 advantage on the glass; Molly Schany contributed 15 points, five rebounds and both Taylor VanderVelde (11pts) and Devyn Kemble (10pts) also scored in double figures.

Karlee McKinney netted 20 points and was the only Mount Marty player in double figures.

The Lancers have lost four straight games since their 79-71 win over Hastings on Jan. 20. Mount Marty has dropped games to University of Jamestown, Midland, Morningside and Hastings since and has lost 13 of its last 14 games overall. They are in 11th place in the current GPAC standings at 2-17, 4-18 overall. The Lancers’ other GPAC win was against College of Saint Mary (62-53) on Dec. 2.

Schlimgen is in his fourth season as head coach and 14th overall year within the Lancers program, spending 10 years as an assistant prior to the 2017-18 season. He returns 10 players from a 2019-20 team that finished 10th in the GPAC with a 7-15 record, 13-16 overall. They were picked to finish 10th in the GPAC preseason poll.

The Raiders will take the court for their first game since a 70-56 road win against Midland on Jan.30. They have won eight straight games, the longest win streak since the 2018-19 season (12), and trail second place Concordia by 1/2 game in the GPAC standings with a 13-5 record.
