Red Raiders At Concordia This Weekend

No.6 Northwestern College heads to Seward, Neb. for a GPAC match-up against Concordia in the final road game of the regular season for Head Coach Matt McCarty’s squad. Kickoff at Bulldogs Stadium is scheduled for 1 pm.

Northwestern is alone in second place in the current GPAC standings with a 6-1 record, 7-1 overall. Concordia is tied with Hastings for seventh place at 2-5 in conference play, 3-5 overall.

Northwestern leads the all-time series 26-14 against the Bulldogs, 8-2 over the last 10 match-ups. Last year, Tyson Kooima passed for a then-career-high 316 yards and scored five touchdowns (3 rushing) in leading the Red Raiders to a 35-21 home win over Concordia.

The Bulldogs have dropped three straight games since defeating Dakota Wesleyan 14-9 in Seward, Neb. on Oct. 6. They lost to Briar Cliff (23-14), Hastings (21-13) and No.1 Morningside (49-0) during their current streak, gaining just 26 yards of offense in last week’s loss to the Mustangs. Concordia opened the season with two wins, defeating Buena Vista in non-conference play and edging Jamestown 16-13 in their GPAC opener.

Daberkow is in his second season as head coach and 12th year as a coach within the program. He guided the Bulldogs to a third place finish with a 5-3 league record in his first season, finishing 6-4 overall. They closed last season winning four of their final five games. 10 starters (4 offense, 6 defense) return from last year’s team, including four players that garnered all-conference honors.

With two games left in the regular season, No. 6 Northwestern is in second place in the GPAC with a 6-1 record, 7-1 overall. McCarty’s squad is 4-0 on the road this season, defeating Hastings 39-29 last week.
