Riley Van Wyhe Accepts Scholarship Offer From UNI

central lyonRiley Van Wyhe, a 6’3” 210 lb. linebacker from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids Iowa, announced Wednesday that he has accepted a scholarship offer and has committed to the University of Northern Iowa Football Program.

Van Wyhe is a 1st Team All-District Linebacker, and was a 3 year starter for the Lions. He helped lead the Lions to three straight playoff appearances, including this year while also playing quarterback.

As a linebacker this season, he had 62 tackles, 3 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. As a quarterback for the Lions this year, he rushed for 591 yards and ran for 11 TD’s, as well as throwing for 531 yards. He accomplished these numbers, in spite of sitting out of a three game stretch with a high ankle sprain. Throughout his career as a Lion, he played various positions including safety and receiver finishing #3 on the Lions All-Time List for career receptions and receiving yards.

Riley is a four-sport standout for the Lions. His junior year, he was 2nd Team All-State Baseball, 2nd Team All-State Basketball and the Class 1A Sprinter of the year last spring in track, helping the Lions to a 3rd place finish in the 4×100 meter relay, 4th place finish in 4×200 meter relay and finishing 4th in the 100 at last year’s State Track Meet.

He also excels in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA, and is a member of the Central Lyon National Honor Society. Riley is projected as an outside linebacker for the Panthers who play in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). They are members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
