Rockets Sweep Orabs

Rock Valley, Iowa — The Rock Valley Rockets swept a Siouxland Conference Girls/Boys basketball doubleheader against the Sheldon Orabs Tuesday night in Rock Valley. The Girls game was 52-33 Rockets, and the Boys final score was 56-51 in overtime.

In the girls matchup, Sheldon and Rock Valley were ice cold to start the contest. After 1 quarter of play it was tied 4-4, but the Rockets would ignite and jump to a 23-11 halftime lead behind the hot shooting of Sammy Blum.  After three, Rock Valley’s lead extended to 36-22, and the Rockets came away with the 52-33 victory.

The Rockets got a game high 18 points from Sammy Blum, 13 of those coming in the 2nd quarter. She was joined in double figures by Taylor Richter with 14 points. The Orabs leading scorer was Bryn Groff with 9.

With the win, Rock Valley improves to 3-1 on the year and in the Siouxland, while Sheldon falls to 1-4 on the year, and 0-4 in the conference.

In the boys matchup, Sheldon held a slim 12-11 after the first quarter, but Rock Valley was in charge heading into halftime with a 27-21 advantage. After three quarters of play, the Orabs regained the lead 33-32 on a pair of free throws from Jayden Kleinhesslink. The 4th quarter went down to the wire and the game would go into overtime with the score knotted up at 44-44. In the extra period, Rock Valley pulled away with their chances at the charity stripe and took the 56- 51 victory.

The Rockets’ leading scorer was Brett Moser with 13 points. Brayton Van Kekerix and Kobe Lutjens had 12 each and J.T. Van’t Hul added 10 points.  The Orabs got a team high 13 from Ryan Van Marel. Kyle Boerhave hit for 11.

With the win, the Rockets improve to 2-0 on the year. Sheldon falls to 2-1.

The Sheldon boys are on the road again to take on Boyden-Hull Thursday night. Rock Valley travels to Central Lyon Friday.
