The first RPI rankings are out according to the IAHSAA. Spirit Lake leads the area teams ranked 4th in Class 2A, while Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley is ranked 9th. Sheldon comes in ranked 23rd. Class 1A features Unity Christian ranked 23rd, while West Sioux and West Lyon are ranked 26th and 27th. Akron-Westfield is ranked 19th in Class A, along with HMS in 30th.
Only the district champion or teams tying for a district championship receive automatic qualification. Remaining at-large qualifiers will be determined by a Ratings Percentage Index formula. The RPI will use three criteria to determine postseason qualification.
a. Team’s overall win-loss percentage (accounting for 37.5% of the index)
b. Team’s opponent’s win-loss percentage (37.5%)
c. Team’s opponent’s opponent’s win-loss percentage (25%)
