Schut, Van Beek Earn AVCA Honors

Northwestern logoMore postseason honors pour in for the Northwestern College volleyball team as Karlie Schut and Jessica Van Beek earn AVCA All-West Central Region honors.

A senior from Des Moines, Iowa, Schut was named to the 14-player first team for the third consecutive year. Schut, the 2015 GPAC player of the year, led the conference in kills, averaging 4.0 per set, and ranked in the top 10 with a .263 kill efficiency. She hit for double figures in 29 matches and posted 12 double-doubles this season. Schut also was third on the team with 65 blocks and averaged 2.4 digs per set.

Van Beek, a sophomore outside hitter from Sheldon, Iowa, was named honorable mention. Van Beek was among the leading hitters in the GPAC, ranking seventh in hitting percentage (.268) and 11th in kills (2.9) per set. She hit for double figures in 19 matches and also totaled 45 blocks while earning second team all-conference honors.

Northwestern ended the season ranked 21st in the final NAIA Coaches’ poll with a 24-8 overall record.
