Sheldon and Boyden Hull Split Doubleheader in Hull

Hull Iowa — Sheldon and Boyden Hull played their final basketball doublheaders of the year in Hull Tuesday night. The girls game went to Sheldon 53-29 with the boys contest going to the Comets 65-51. The boys close out the regular season Friday night. For the girls it’s on to the playoffs on Saturday.

In the girls game Sheldon opened the game with a 22-7 first quarter lead and never looked back. At the half the lead was 35-9 and at the end of the third quarter the Orabs remained in control 44-14 as they got their 10th win of the season 53-29.

Brooklyn Grady led the Orabs with 17 points. Maliah Kleinhesselink was next with 8 points. The Comets Erika Pottebaum tied for game high honors with 17 points as well.

With the win Sheldon ends the regular season at 10-11 and 7-11 in the conference. The Comets enter the tournament with a 13-8 record and 12-6. Sheldon will open the 3A Region 1 quarterfinal at MOC Floyd Valley on Saturday with a 7:00 pm opening tip. Boyden Hull begins the Class 2A Region 1 tournament with a 7:00 pm home game Saturday against Hinton.

In the boys game stayed even with the Comets for three and a half quarters before Boyden Hull took control halfway through the final 8 minutes. Sheldon was up 17-12 at the end of the first quarter with the Comets going up 29-25 at the half. At the end of the third Boyden Hull had a 43-40 advantage. They would take control in the fourth and get their 19th win of the season 63-51.

Sheldon had three players in double figures. Mitchal Wolf led the way with 15. Tyler Lode hit for 14 with Ty Sudbeck adding a dozen. Boyden Hull put three players in double figures as well. Carter Francis had a game high 16 points with Brett Vander Wilt and Spencer Te Slaa dropping in 11 points each.

With the win the Comets are 19-1 on the year and 16-1 in the conference. Sheldon is 5-15 for the year and 3-14 in the Siouxland. Sheldon will close out the regular season at home Friday night against Sioux Center. Boyden Hull will be at Okoboji on Friday night.
