Sheldon and Boyden Hull Split Final Double Header of the Season

GPAC Mens BasketballHull Iowa — Sheldon and Boyden Hull split their final regular season basketball double header at Hull Tuesday night. Sheldon took the girls game 47-35. The boys game went to Boyden Hull 73-53.

Sheldon led at all the breaks in the girls contest. They were up 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and led by six at the half 18-12. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 33-24 with the Orabs getting the win 47-35.

A pair of seniors led the offense with Emily johnson hitting four 3-point buckets on the way to an 18 point night. Sami Kleinwolterink added 16 points.

The Comets were led by Baily Ten Haken with nine points coming on a trio of threes. Anna De Jongh was next with eight points.

With the win Sheldon wraps up the regular season with an 8-13 record going 8-11 in the conference. Boyden Hull closes the regular season at 3-18 going 2-16 in the Siouxland.

Sheldon opens tournament play in Class 3A with a quarterfinal matchup in Spirit Lake Saturday against the host team Indians. Boyden Hull opens Class 2A tournament play on Saturday with a game against the Wolverines at South O’Brien. Opening tip offs for both will be at 7pm.

In the boys game Boyden Hull led by a point 21-20 at the end of the first quarter. At halftime the lead was up to eight points at 38-30. The Orabs opened the second half on a run and pulled to within one points before a time out by the Comets resulted in a run of their own that turned into a 52-41 third quarter lead. Boyden Hull would go on to win 73-53 and extend their winning streak to 12 games.

A trio of Comets did most of the damage with Justin Schmidt hitting for a game high 22 points. He was followed by Kyle Bakker with 20 and Dalton Moser who hit for 16 points including four buckets from beyond the arc.

Sheldon was led by Matt Buenger with 10 points including a pair of threes and four-of-four free throw shooting. Dylan Ennema was next with 9 points.

With the win Boyden Hull improves to 17-3 on the season and 14-3 in the conference. Sheldon falls to 13-7 for the year and 11-6 in the Siouxland. Up next for Sheldon is the regular season finale on Friday as they host Sibley Ocheyedan. Boyden Hull wraps up the regular season Friday at Rock Valley.
