Sheldon and Central Lyon Split Basketball Doubleheader

Basketball scoreboardRock Rapids Iowa — Sheldon and Central Lyon split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader in Rock Rapids Tuesday night. The Lions took the girls game 34-23 with the boys game going to Sheldon 63-47.

In the girls game Central Lyon led at all the breaks. They were up 7-2 at the end of the first quarter and a three at the buzzer by Ashley Boer put the Lions up 15-11 at the half. at the end of the third quarter the lead was 25-17 with Central Lyon going on to win 34-23.

Boer was the games top scorer with 13 points. Sheldon was led by Katie Wagner with 8 points on the night. With the win Central Lyon is at 4-4 both on the year and in the conference. Sheldon falls to 2-8 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.

 

In the boys game Sheldon was up 15-12 at the end of the first quarter and pushed that to a 31-18 first half lead. Behind a 10 point third quarter by Riley Van Wyhe the Lions were able to pull to within 5 points at the end of the third quarter 42-37. Sheldon was able to regain control in the fourth quarter and pick up the win 63-47.

Kyle Boerhave was the  games top scorer with 19 points followed by Ryan Van Marel with 16. They were joined by Jaden Kleinhesslink with 11 points. Riley Van Wyhe led Central Lyon with 14 points followed by Ryan Metzger with 12 points.

With the win Sheldon is 8-1 on the season and 6-1 in the conference. Central Lyon is 2-6 both on the year and in the Siouxland. Next action for the Orabs will be on Thursday when they host Sibley Ocheyedan in a make up game. Central Lyon returns to action on Friday hosting Okoboji.
