Sheldon and MOC Floyd Valley split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader Tuesday night in Orange City. The girls game went to Sheldon 44-41 with the boys game going to the Dutch 72-37.
The Lady Dutch led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and were up 28-20 at halftime. Sheldon went on a 13-4 run in the third quarter to take the lead 33-32 going into the fourth quarter. Down the stretch the Orabs would do just enough at the free throw line to get the win 44-41.
Sami Kleinwolterink was the games top scorer with 14 points. Kelsey Den Hartog and Emily Johnson hit for 9 points each and Katie Kneifl added 8 in the team win.
MOC Floyd Valley was led by Breanna Schuiteman with 13 points on the night. Destiny Einerwold was next with 7 points.
With the win Sheldon improves to 6-10 on the year and 5-9 in the conference. The Lady Dutch are 5-12 on the year and 5-9 in the Siouxland.
In the boys game MOC Floyd Valley led 15-12 at the end of the first quarter and with a trio of threes from Levi Jansen were up 29-21 at halftime. Coming out of the break it was a trio of threes from Christian Korver that would be the springboard to a 46-26 third quarter lead as the Dutch went on to claim a 72-37 win.
Jansen and Korver would finish with 22 points each. Sheldon was led by Dylan Ennema with 9 points followed by Andy Cooper and Collin Wolthizen with 6 ponts each.
With the win MOC Floyd Valley ranked 9th in Class 3A move to 13-2 for the year and 12-1 in the conference. For Sheldon it was just their fourth set back of the year as they fall to 11-4 on the season and 9-4 in the conference.
Up next for the Orabs will be a friday nigth home doubleheader with Sioux Center. MOC Floyd Valley travels to Rock Valley on Friday night.
