Sheldon And Rock Valley Split Basketball Double Header At Sheldon Tuesday

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon hosted Rock Valley for a Siouxland Conference double header Tuesday night with Sheldon winning the girls game 52-49 while the Rockets controlled the boys game winning 62-28.

In the girls game Rock Valley used a pair of scoring runs to jump out to a 20-9 first quarter lead. Sheldon closed the half on a 24-4 run to take a 31-24 first half lead. 6 different players knocked down a total of 8 first half threes for the Orabs. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 43-33 with Sheldon getting the win 52-49. In the fourth quarter three Orabs combined to go 5 of 7 at the free throw line to nail down the win.

Rock Valley got a game high 20 points from Lexie Van Kekerix and 19 from Abby Heemstrra. Sheldon was led by Claire Johnson with 14 and Makenna Kleinhesselink with 13 points.

With the win Sheldon is 2-9 on the year and 2-7 in the conference. Rock Valley stands at 6-3 on the year and in the Siouxland.

In the boys game the Rockets were in control throughout leading 18-3 at the end of the first quarter and 34-7 at the half. The Sheldon offense came alive in the third quarter as the lead was cut to 45-21. With a strong 4th quarter Rock Valley would get the win 62-28. Landyn Van Kekerix   had a game high 22 points and was joined in double figures by Cole Huyser with 10. Sheldon was led by Blake Radke who knocked down a trio of threes in the third quarter for 9 points on the night.

With the win Rock Valley is off to a 6-2 start both in the conference and for the year. Sheldon falls to 2-8 on the year and 1-7 in the Siouxland. Up next for Sheldon is a trip to Okoboji Friday night. Rock Valley returns to action Thursday night with a home double header against Lenox South Dakota
