Sheldon Earns Conference Baseball win Over MOC Floyd Valley

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon posted a 9-2 home win over MOC Floyd Valley Monday night. The Orabs scored in each inning but the second.

Sheldon took the early lead with a run in the home half of the first inning as Brennan Radke reached on an error and would eventually score on a wild pitch.

In the second inning Sheldon took a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs. Alex Albrecht drew a walk and scored from third on a single up the middle by Tyler Johnson.

The Dutch got on the board in the fourth inning as Ben De Boer led off with a single to the left side of the infield and eventually came in from third on a pass ball to cut the Orab lead to 3-1.

Sheldon got the run back in the bottom of the fourth as Nick Bomgaars opened the inning with a single to center and later scored on a wild pitch.

Sheldon scored a pair in the fifth inning as clean up hitter Cody Van Meeteren lifted a solo home run to straight away left field. Zach Broesder drew a walk and scored on an rbi single up the middle by Nick Bomgaars to make the score 6-1 Orabs.

MOC Floyd Valley put a run on the board in the top of the sixth as Noah Fleming reached on an error and later scored on a ground ball through the left side by Carter Heemstra.

Sheldon finished the scoring with a 3-run bottom of the sixth. Alex Albrecht drew a walk and later scored on a single up the middle by Tyler Johnson. Jason Barwick drew a walk and both Johnson and Barwick crossed the plate on a 2-out, 2-run single down the left field line by Parker Nissen. Nissen’s line drive made the final 9-2 in favor of Sheldon.

Nissen was the winning pitcher in the contest. He went 7 innings striking out 3 and walking 3. He scattered 5 hits and gave up just 2 runs.

Ben Zeutenhorst went the first 5 innings for the Dutch. He gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and struck out 7. Ben De Boer finished up giving up 3 runs on 4 hits in the sixth inning.

With the win Sheldon moves to 4-4 on the year and 3-1 in the conference. MOC Floyd Valley is 2-6 for the year and 2-1 in the Siouxland.
