Sheldon Falls in Semifinals, To Play In Consolations Thursday

Des Moines, Iowa — The lethal long distance of the Cascade Cougars was too much for the Orabs as Sheldon fell 65-43 Wednesday night at the Wells-Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Cascade jumped out front early, but Sheldon was able to keep pace and tie the game at seven midway through the opening quarter. The Cougars then went on an 8-0 run late in the first, and after one, led 19-11. The Cougars continued where they left during the second quarter. Cascade went on a 6-0 run and led by as much as fourteen. The Orabs were able to trim the the score and heading into intermission the Cougars had a 28-19 lead. Sheldon’s Ryan Van Marel had a dozen first half points, along with seven rebounds. Cascade then opened up the second half with an 11-0 run to lead by as much as twenty. Heading into the final quarter, the Cougars led 48-30. Cascade then went on to the 65-43 victory.

The Cougars got a game high twenty-three points from Harris Hoffman. Sheldon got a team high thirteen points from Van Marel. Kyle Boerhave added eleven points.

#2 Sheldon falls to 22-4 on the year and will play #5 Aplington-Parkersburg Thursday afternoon at 12:15 pm for the consolation matchup. Aplington-Parkersburg fell to #1 Treynor 75-66 in the upper bracket semifinal. #6 Cascade improves to to 25-1.

DES MOINES – Treynor withstood a furious comeback attempt from Aplington-Parkersburg to advance back to the Class 2A championship, winning Wednesday night’s semifinal at Wells Fargo Arena, 75-66. The 2015 champs poured in 50 points in the second and third quarters, using the final frame to hold on for the third title game berth in program history.

Aplington-Parkersburg (24-2) led 15-10 after the first quarter, but was scorched by the Cardinals’ hot outside shooting. Junior Carter Cuvelier led the rally with 26 second-half points, getting the Falcons as close as three points in the final three minutes. Cuvelier finished with a game-high 30 points.

Treynor had three scorers in double-digits on a night when it hit a dozen 3-pointers, including six in the second quarter alone. Dillon Faubel led the charge with 21 points, and Jack Stogdill added 20 of his own. Luke Clausen paced the Cardinals (26-0) on the glass and ended with 14 points and eight rebounds.
