Sheldon Outlasts Central Lyon On Both Ends Of Double-Header

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs to both ends of a Siouxland Conference girl/boys basketball double-header at the Orena Saturday night in games that had been postponed from this past Tuesday due to the frigid temperatures.

In the opening game, the Sheldon girls beat Central Lyon by a final score of 57-56. With less than 1 second to go in the contest the Orabs committed a foul, putting Central Lyon at the Free Throw line for a 1 and 1 with 0.5 seconds on the clock. The free throws were missed, and Sheldon came away with the Siouxland Conference win.

Unofficially, Sheldon’s Brooklyn Grady led all scorers with 22 points on the night, and was the only Orab to reach double figures. Central Lyon had two girls reach double figures, with Hayden Heimensen scoring 17 points, and Sutton Schlumbomb adding 14 unofficially.

With the win, the Orab girls stretch their season record to 9-11 overall, and 6-11 in the Siouxland Conference. The Lions fall to 10-10 overall, and 9-8 in the league.

The boys game had no shortage of thrills as the two teams battled back and forth throughout the contest. The score was tied at 10-all at the end of one. Sheldon took a 20-16 lead into the locker room at half-time, but the Lions battled back in the 3rd, taking the lead 31-30. The Orabs prevailed in the end by a 49-47 margin over the Lions.

Each team had only one scorer in double figures. Unofficially Tye Sudbeck led the way for Sheldon with 16 points, and Brayden Dieren scored 15 for Central Lyon.

With the win, the Orabs extend their season record to 5-14 overall, and 3-13 in the Siouxland Conference, while the loss drops Central Lyon to 4-15 overall, and 1-15 in the league.

The next outing for Central Lyon will be Tuesday night when MOC-Floyd Valley comes to town for a girl/boy double-header, which will mark the final regular season game for the Lion girls.

Sheldon’s next outing will be Tuesday night when they travel to Boyden-Hull for a Siouxland Conference girl/boy double-header, which will be the final regular season game for the Sheldon girls.
