Sioux Center Downs Sheldon on Senior Night

Sioux Center Iowa — The Sioux Center Warriors celebrated senior night with a 41-18 win over Sheldon on Friday night. The Warriors are off to a 3-0 start and ranked #6 in the Radio Iowa 2A Poll.

Sioux Center scored on their first possession as Zach Rozeboom hit Brett Schouten for a 44 yard score.Miguel Gonzalez added the point after and the Warriors led 7-0 with 8:10 to go in the first quarter.

Sheldon countered with an 85 yard drive that went from the end of the first quarter into the second quarter as Kaleb Ackerman scored on a 1 yard run. The extra point was no good and the lead had been cut to 7-6 with 8:12 left in the half.

Rozeboom capped a 90 yard drive with 5 yard run. Gonzalez added the extra point to make it 14-6 Warriors with 4:57 left in the half.

Sheldon trimmed the lead to 14-12 with a 70 yard drive just before the half as Tyrel Lindemann scored on a 7 yard run. A 2-point attempt was no good and 14-12 would be the half time score.

Sioux Center received the kick to start the second half and went 65 yards for the score. Rozeboom broke a 30 yard run for the touchdown. The kick by Gonzalez made it 21-12 with  8:47 left in the third.

After a defensive stop Sioux Center grabbed the momentum with a 70 yard drive. Mathew Bomgaars scored on a 6 yard run. The 2-point attempt failed and the lead was up to 27-12 with 3:43 left in the third.

The Warriors scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Rozeboom hit Dao Keokhamthong for a 49 yard score. Bomgaars went in from 4 yards out for the second score and with Gonzalez remaining perfect on extra points the lead was 41-12 with 6:06 left to play.

Sheldon finished the scoring with a late 65 yard drive capped by a 5 yard Brian Bernal touchdown run. The 2-point attempt was no good and the Sioux Center lead was 41-18 with 1:56 to play.

With the win Sioux Center is 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in the district. Sheldon is now 1-2 for the year and 0-1 in the district. Sheldon will celebrate homecoming next Friday with Central Lyon George Little Rock in town. Sioux Center travels to MOC Floyd Valley.
