Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs opened the baseball season at home falling to Spencer 9-3 in a non-conference match up.
The Tigers scored three in the top of the first inning. Cooper Fox drove in Gage Garnatz with an rbi single. Two more runs scored as Brady Seier singled to right field to plate Brendan Ellis and Cooper Fox and put Spencer in front 3-0.
The Orabs scored in the bottom half of the first as Alex Albrecht led off with a walk and scored on a single to right off the bat of clean up hitter Cody Van Meeteren.
Spencer added a run in the top of the second as Brady Kluender singled and scored on an rbi single by Brenden Ellis.
Sheldon pulled to within 4-3 in the bottom of the third as Brennan Radke reached on a strike three wild pitch and Tyler Johnson followed with a walk. A two out single up the middle by Zach Broesder drove them both in to get Sheldon within a run.
Spencer scored a pair in the fourth as Kluender and Garnatz both reached and scored to make it 6-3 in favor of the Tigers.
A pair of runs in the fifth made it 8-3 as Kluender reached and scored his third run of the game. DH Colton Wilinski walked earlier and scored on Kleunder’s rbi single.
Spencer scored their final run in the top of the sixth as Cooper Fox singled and scored on an rbi double by Wilinski to make it 9-3 in favor of Spencer.
Winning pitcher Brady Kluender went the first 5 innings for the win. He gave up 3 runs on just 3 hits. He struck out 7 and walked 2. Parker Nissen went the first 3 innings for Sheldon and left with the Orabs trailing 4-3. Tyler Johnson went the next 3 with Alex Albrecht pitching the seventh inning. Nissen struck out 1 and walked 1.
The Orabs take an 0-1 record into another non-conference game Wednesday at LeMars. Spencer will play host to Denison Schleswig in a non-conference game Tuesday.
