State Softball continues Wednesday at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex, featuring quarterfinal, winner’s-bracket semifinal, and elimination semifinal games across all five classes.
Remsen St. Mary’s kept its season alive with a walk-off victory Tuesday, but the challenge only gets tougher. Like the other teams emerging from Tuesday’s elimination games, the Hawks must win three games Wednesday to reach the Class 1A State Championship. They open the day against No. 3 St. Edmond at 10:30 a.m. A win would send them into a pair of games against No. 2 Clarksville at 3 and 7:30 p.m., needing victories in both to advance to Friday’s state title game.
State Baseball also continues Wednesday with Class 1A and 3A semifinal action. Upsets have been the story of the tournament, with four of eight games in those two classes won by lower-seeded teams. After a nine-inning victory over Xavier on Tuesday, No. 6 MOC-Floyd Valley now faces No. 7 Assumption for a spot in the Class 3A State Championship.
Class 2A baseball resumes Thursday with semifinal action. That tournament has also seen its share of surprises, with two of four opening-round games won by lower-seeded teams. Following Tuesday’s upset over No. 3 West Lyon, No. 6 Unity Christian will face No. 7 Durant for a berth in the Class 2A State Championship.
