Van Beek, Solberg Named NAIA All-Americans

Postseason accolades continue to roll in for the Red Raider football team as both Bryce Van Beek and Shane Solberg were recognized as NAIA All-Americans by the national office for their play this season.

Van Beek, who also was named an AFCA All-American earlier this week, was named to the 11-player second team on defense. Van Beek, a two-time all-conference selection as one of the anchors of the Red Raider secondary, ranked second in the NAIA with 10 interceptions this season. The senior broke up 19 passes, 10th most in the NAIA, and ranked third on the team with 60 total stops. Van Beek closed his career with 17 interceptions, tied for seventh most all-time in program history.

Solberg earned honorable mention honors after a record-breaking sophomore season at wide receiver for Coach Matt McCarty’s squad. Solberg set school records in both receptions (84) and receiving yards (1,374), ranking sixth and second in the NAIA, respectively. He is just the second Red Raider to tally 1,000-yards receiving in a single season and has seven games with 100-yards receiving, scoring a touchdown in eight of 10 games. Solberg also set the school record for receiving yards in a single game, totaling 269 on 13 catches in the win over Hastings.

Northwestern finished the 2018 season with a 9-2 overall record and was ranked in the top 10 all season.
