Vander Plaats Earns Men’s GPAC Track Honor

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following men’s indoor track & field athletes-of-the-week for events held January 27-Feb. 2, 2020. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2019-2020 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week

Track Events – Jacob VanderPlaats, Dordt University

Jacob VanderPlaats of Dordt University is this week’s track athlete-of-the-week.  VanderPlaats, a junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, won the mile in a meet record time of 4:16.79 at the Dennis Young Invite in Storm Lake, Iowa. His automatic qualifying mark was over seven seconds ahead of second place and is his second automatic qualifying mark of the season, following his 14:53.45 5K from the first meet of the season. His mile time places him third overall in the NAIA and first in the GPAC. He’s the first male athlete in the GPAC this season to meet the automatic standard for the National Championship in two events.
