Hull, Iowa — Western Christian volleyball coach Tammi Veerbeek has become the winningest coach in Iowa high school volleyball history.

The milestone came this past Thursday night as the Wolfpack defeated Spirit Lake in the Class 3A Region 1 semifinals 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-16), giving Veerbeek career victory No. 1,228 and moving her past EaVon Woodin, who coached at Pocahontas and Waverly-Shell Rock.

Veerbeek has led the Western Christian program since 1999, helping build one of the state’s premier volleyball programs. Under her guidance, the Wolfpack have become a perennial contender and are currently in the midst of 25-consecutive state tournament appearances.

Western Christian Athletic Director Travis Kooima said Veerbeek’s impact on the volleyball program, her coaching staff, and the young women she has mentored over the past 28 years extends well beyond wins and losses. He says her servant leadership and faith-centered approach makes the record a fitting testament of her dedication and passion for the program.

The Wolfpack will look to add to Veerbeek’s record when they continue postseason play on Tuesday.
