Western Christian to Play for 1A State Football Title

Western Christian 2Cedar Falls Iowa — 3rd ranked Western Christian earned a spot in the 1A football title game for the second consecutive year Saturday afternoon. The return trip to the UNI Dome comes on the heels of a 35-14 win over 4th ranked Van Meter in the State semi finals.

The game was tied at 7-7 when quarterback Tyson Kooima found Jesse Jansma in the end zone to put the Wolfpack up 14-7. The Bulldogs would answer with a scoring drive of their own to tie the game at 14-14 and that would be the half time score.

The Wolfpack broke open a close game with a trio of second half touchdowns to seal the win. Kooima connected with Ben  Gesink for a pair of touchdowns and a 28-14 lead. A final Wolfpack touchdown made the final 35-14.

Western takes a 10 game winning streak into he championship Friday morning November 18th with an 11:06 scheduled start against six time defending champion Iowa City Regina. The Regals are also on a 10 game winning streak. The only loss for either team came on opening night. Both enter the title game at 11-1.
