Sioux City Iowa — Sioux City East downed Western Christian Saturday night 44-28 in a battle of state-ranked girls basketball teams. It was also part of the CNOS Classic. With games running late at the Tyson Event Center, the game was moved to the Sioux City East High School Gym.
Sioux City East, ranked # 15 in the latest 5A poll, led at all the breaks on route to the win over the Wolfpack who came in ranked #8 in the latest 2A poll. At the end of the first quarter, the Black Raiders were up 12-6 and increased that to a 27-14 halftime advantage. At the end of the third quarter they were up 36-20 before going on to win 44-28.
Olivia Granstra of the Wolfpack and the Black Raiders Kennedy McCloy shared game high scoring honors with 13 points each. Ally Postma of Western and Nyamer Diew of East were next in scoring hitting for 8 points each.
Western falls to 7-4 on the year while Sioux City East is now 8-2 on the season. Western returns to action on Thursday, hosting Unity in a girls/boys doubleheader.
