Western Girls Win Season Opener In Overtime

Moville, Iowa — Western Christian won their season opener on the road at Woodbury Central 72-65.

Both teams battled all contest. At the end of the first quarter it was 13-11 in favor of Western Christian, and at the half, Western extended their lead to five at 31-26. Sienna Moss put in 14 first half points for the Wolfpack. The battle continued in the second half. Western’s lead was down to 2 after three, at 47-45. Both teams would trade leads in the fourth quarter. With 4 seconds left, Moss would hit the jumped send the game into overtime at 59-59.

It was all Western in the extra minutes. Madison Vis hit ten of her game high 24 points in overtime, going 6 of 8 from the charity stripe. Western would go on to win 72-65.

Western had two players in double figures. Vis had 24, and Moss added 20. The Wildcats had two players in double figures. McKenna Herbold had a team high 23 points, and Camrin Baird put in 13.

With the win, Western improves to 1-0 on the year and will be on the road to Newell-Fonda on December 1st. Woodbury Central falls to 0-1 on the season and will host Remsen St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
