Hull, Iowa — Western Christian split a Lakes Conference Double header contest Tuesday night with Estherville-Lincoln Central. The Midgets won the Girls contest 54-40 while the Wolfpack boys cruised to a 76-45 win.
In the girls contest it was a back and forth throughout the first half, the Midgets led 15-10 after one and went into halftime all tied at 21. Madison Vis of the Wolfpack had 11 points and the Midgets Kaitlyn Tendal had 12 at the break.
The Midgets pushed out to a 33-24 advantage with 1:55 left in the third prompting a timeout by Western. The Wolf pack ended the third with a little rally trailing 36-30 after three. Western started the fourth quarter where they left off tying the game at 36 all with 6:30 left in the fourth. The Midgets were able to swing the momentum in their favor and force Western to foul them putting them at the free throw line. The Midgets were 11 of 12 from the charity stripe in the fourth sealing the victory 54-40. The Midgets shot 17 of 20 from the free throw line on the night.
The Midgets put four in double figures led by Tendal with 18, 13 a piece from Jordyn Stokes and Jasey Anderson and 10 points from Jayden Nitchals. Western was led in scoring by Vis with 15.
Western falls to 2-2 on the season and Estherville-Lincoln Central improves to 5-0.
The boys contest started very slow with Western leading 10-5 after the first period. Things started to heat up for the Wolfpack in the second quarter with good ball movement and quick scoring led by Ty Van Essen with 9 points in the quarter pushing the Wolfpack out to a 32-20 lead at half. The third quarter started where the second one left off for Western with Van Essen scoring 16 points in the quarter and Western would lead 58-29 after three and would coast to a 76-45 victory.
Van Essen led all scorers with 27 for Western. The Midgets were led in scoring with 16 points from Will Larson.
Western improves to 3-0 on the season and Estherville-Lincoln Central falls to 2-2.
Next up for the Wolfpack will be a home contest when Le Mars comes to town Thursday night and the Midgets will host Cherokee on Tuesday December 15.
