Wolverines Down Orabs 33-12 in Sheldon

South O'Brien WolverineSheldon Iowa — Damon Struve found the end zone three times as South O’Brien opened the season with a 33-12 non district win at Sheldon Friday night.

The Wolverines opened the scoring with a 66 yard 13 play drive. Struve scored from 15 yards out and Cody Johansen added the extra point to put South O’Brien up 7-0 with 4:19 left in the first quarter.

A 70 yard drive that started midway through the first quarter ended with 9:30 left in the second quarter as Struve scored on a 10 yard run to wrap up an 11 play drive. The extra point was no good and the lead was 13-0.

An interception set the Wolverines up at the Sheldon 44. The short field was cashed in on three plays when Sam Nelson found Kyle Paulsen on a 31 yard touchdown pass. Johansen’s kick made it 20-0 with 7:34 to go in the second quarter.

Sheldon answered with a 72 yard 15 play drive. Joe Weppler finished the drive with a 4 yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 20-6 with 2:32 to play in the half.

The Wolverines got on the board with :11 seconds left in the half as they went 74 yards in 11 plays. The touchdown came on a 28 yard touchdown pass from Nelson to Struve to make the score 26-6 at halftime.

The two teams traded scored in the second half. Kyle Paulsen Picked off  a pass at the Orab 23 and returned it to the 6 yard line. The finish was a 2 yard quarterback keeper by Nelson. Johansen added the extra point to push the lead to 33-6 with 8:44 to play in the fourth quarter.

The Orabs finished the scoring with 2:15 to play on a 40 yard 9 play drive. It ended on a 2 yard quarterback keeper by Jaden Kleinhesselink. A two point conversion attempt was no good and the final score would be 33-12 in favor of the wolverines.

Up next for Sheldon will be a trip to West Lyon for another non district game.

South O’Brien will host Hartley Melvin Sanborn next Friday night.
