Team Of Sheldon Police/SCAT Beats Team Of Sheldon Fire/EMA In Annual Blood Drive

Sheldon, Iowa — The team of the Sheldon Police Department and Sheldon Community Ambulance Team took the win in the Heroes Behind the Badges Blood Drive on Monday in a big way.

The annual blood drive took place out front of the KIWA Studios in downtown Sheldon. The event is a friendly competition between the team of the police and SCAT and the team of the Sheldon Fire Company and Sheldon the Emergency Management Agency. People come in to give blood and before they do, they chose whether their donation will be counted toward one team’s total or the other. This time the police and SCAT won by a score of 29 donation votes to 15 donation votes, according to Lauri Hoffmann, the Program Coordinator for the Community Blood Bank.

She says it was a “fantastic” drive and that 39 total units were donated, which have the potential of helping 117 local patients.

Sanford Sheldon and almost all of the other hospitals in our area get their blood from the Community Blood Bank, which is a partnership of Sanford Health and Avera Health.
