UPDATE: Sheldon Hot Dog Day is Tonight

Sheldon, Iowa — Due to the wet weather that had been forecast for Monday night, the Sheldon Chamber decided to postpone the annual Hot Dog Day until Wednesday (tonight).

Of course the postponement didn’t work for everyone. G&E Cabinetry, Southwest Wholesale RV, and St. Patrick’s School served hot dogs as originally-scheduled on Monday night. G&E was also in the “Top Dog” contest, and they are still in the running, as the judges visited them on Monday night.

Also, there were to be ice cream treats available at Citizen’s State Bank. Those will now be available at a separate event next Monday, August 27th, starting at 5 p.m. Two hundred free popsicles will be given away and other ice cream treats will be available for purchase. Again that’s from 5 p.m. until they are gone next Monday.

But as far as the rest of Hot Dog Day, it will be this Wednesday night now, also from 5 p.m. until the hot dogs are gone. In addition to the hot dogs, watermelon will be provided outside the Sheldon Community Services Center, sponsored by Fareway.

Sheldon, Iowa — There are many signs that summer is coming to a close — the nights are beginning to cool, the kids are going back to school, the cicadas continue their trademark buzz, and at one time, you could count on Sheldon’s Hot Dog Day as one of those signs. But, after a hiatus of a few years, it’s back!

Sheldon Chamber Director Shanelle Matus tells us all about Hot Dog Day.

She says that besides a way to grab a quick dog, there’s even a “Top Dog Competition.”

Even KIWA Radio will have hot dogs available. Find the list of participating businesses/flyer here.

It’s not just hot dogs. Matus explains.

Each year, something different can be found. Matus says they’ve had different toppings, mystery toppings, a Hawaiian theme, a western theme, special music, and more. But she says the top dog contestants are holding their cards close to their chest this year and it’s anyone’s guess what they’ll come up with.

The chamber encourages everyone to come to Sheldon on Monday night. The stores are always open late on Mondays and this Monday, you can grab a dog with your friends while you shop.
