Maurice, Iowa — An Alcester, South Dakota, man was injured in a crash on Thursday at Million Dollar Corner south of Sioux Center.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at about 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 75, two miles north of Maurice.
They tell us 78-year-old Virasack Moumy was driving a 2016 Mazda eastbound on Highway 10 as he approached the intersection. Sixty-year-old Jonathan Meek of Sioux Center was driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi with a dump trailer southbound on Highway 75.
The Sheriff’s Office says Moumy entered the intersection without stopping, and the two vehicles collided.
The Sioux Center Ambulance took Moumy to Sioux Center Health.
Damage was estimated at approximately $15,000 to the Mazda and $60,000 to the Peterbilt.
Moumy was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us the Iowa State Patrol, Sioux Center Police Department, Orange City Police Department, Sioux Center Ambulance Squad, the Maurice First Responders, and Sioux County Emergency Management assisted with the response to the crash.
