Hinton, Iowa — Another child has died as the result of a UTV accident, this one in Plymouth County near Hinton.
According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, at about 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10th, their emergency center received a 911 of a UTV accident with injuries that occurred at a home in the 28000 block of Hill Lane west of Hinton.
The sheriff’s office reports that during their investigation, they found that an eight-year-old boy was driving an unregistered 2012 Polaris Ranger, owned by the homeowner. They tell us the driver of the UTV lost control in a grassy area, causing the UTV to roll over onto its top. The driver was partially ejected from the UTV causing life-threatening injuries.
The Hinton Ambulance took him to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City where he was later pronounced deceased. The name of the eight-year-old victim is not being released.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says the Iowa State Patrol and the Hinton Ambulance and Fire Department assisted them with the response to the accident, which they say remains under investigation.
