Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Sioux Center man is facing a felony charge after authorities allege he intentionally urinated inside a police vehicle and at the Sioux Center Police Department following a traffic stop on Sept. 29th.
30-year-old Saul Rodriguez-Hernandez is charged with second-degree criminal mischief involving publicly owned property, a Class D felony.
According to a criminal complaint filed Oct. 2nd in Sioux County District Court, Sioux Center police stopped Rodriguez-Hernandez near 12th Street Northeast and 13th Avenue Northeast after allegedly observing his pickup swerve and squeal its tires. The complaint states the pickup’s rear license plate lights were not working and that Rodriguez-Hernandez drove onto a curb while stopping.
Police allege Rodriguez-Hernandez later smoked inside a patrol vehicle and refused instructions to extinguish the cigarette. According to the complaint, he also refused to leave the vehicle, prompting officers to remove him. The complaint states a brief physical struggle followed before officers placed him in handcuffs.
Authorities further allege Rodriguez-Hernandez intentionally urinated on the seat of the patrol vehicle and later on the floor at the police department. The filing does not list a dollar amount for any damage or cleanup costs.
According to jail records, Rodriguez-Hernandez was arrested on Oct. 10th by the Sioux Center Police Department. His bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety, and records show he was released the same day through a bondsman.
