Iowa (KUOO) — Fall driving conditions can create added hazards for motorists as harvest equipment moves between fields and deer become more active.

Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says drivers need to be extra vigilant, especially when sharing the road with slow-moving farm machinery.

Krull says the evening hours can be especially dangerous.

Krull also reminds drivers to not swerve suddenly if a deer enters the roadway.

Krull says crashes involving deer have declined in recent years but remain a significant safety concern for Iowa motorists.
