Combine Fire Near Larchwood Damages Combine, Stubble

Larchwood, Iowa — A combine head and crop stubble was damaged in a fire on Thursday, October 5, 2023, near Larchwood.

According to Larchwood Fire Chief Tony De Smet, at about 1:05 p.m., the Larchwood Fire Department was called to the report of a field on fire near 1936 135th Street, about a mile and a half east of Larchwood.

The chief says the fire department saw stubble on fire as they approached the scene and found out that the fire was also in the combine head. He says they used water to fight the fire.

De Smet says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical in nature.

Chief De Smet reports that there was minimal damage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 20 minutes.
