Des Moines Man Facing Charges Related To Alleged Forgery, Car Theft In Orange City

Orange City, Iowa — A Des Moines man has been arrested on forgery charges in Orange City.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 20-year-old William Don Page of Des Moines is accused of forging a check he had received. He was arrested this week.

The complaint states the victim told authorities that they had given Page a blank check because it was needed for account information to open an account in Page’s name. It says Page and another person then went to Iowa State Bank in Orange City and forged it in the amount of $9000, signing the victim’s name. When they presented the check, the teller called the victim to confirm the check was legitimate and the victim informed the teller it had been forged. The victim had also given Page permission to use a car to go to work and back to the victim’s home. The officer says Page was found heading for Des Moines in the now stolen car.

Page was charged with forgery and second-degree theft, both class D felonies. If convicted, Page could face up to five years in prison on each count.

Court records indicate Page faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, April 25th.

At last report, he remained in the Sioux County Jail in lieu of a $5000 bond.
