Ireton, Iowa — The Ireton Fire Department was called out for a fire call on Sunday, October 4, 2026, near Ireton.
According to Ireton Fire Chief Richard Steckelberg, at about 2:45 p.m., firefighters were called to the report of a beanfield fire near Granite Avenue and 120th Street, seven miles south and four miles west of Ireton.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw a small patch of beans on fire. He says they used water to fight the fire, and a farmer came with a disk as they were wrapping up firefighting efforts and made sure the fire was out by disking it under.
Steckelberg says no injuries were reported to people, pets, or livestock.
Ireton firefighters were assisted by the Akron and Hawarden fire departments.
He says they think something hot dropped from a combine and started the fire. He says the value of the beans that burned in the fire was negligible.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
