Hartley Man Jailed After Leading Osceola Deputy On High-Speed Pursuit

Ashton, Iowa — A high-speed chase that began in Ashton earlier this week ended with a foot chase and the arrest of a Hartley man on felony and misdemeanor charges.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:30 Monday morning, August 19th, an Osceola County Deputy conducted a traffic stop in Ashton. During the traffic stop the driver of the motor vehicle refused to identify himself and he drove away. The Osceola County Deputy pursued the vehicle at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The car chase came to an end when an Officer with the Sheldon Police Department successfully deployed stop sticks on the vehicle. The driver of the motor vehicle then drove into Sheldon and once inside the city of Sheldon, the driver took off on foot, and was apprehended by the Osceola County Deputy after a foot chase.

Deputies identify the driver as 34-year-old Bruce Allen Flaugh Jr., of Hartley. Officials say he was charged with allegedly Eluding, a class D felony, Operating while Intoxicated- 2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance -Methamphetamine -1st Offense, a serious misdemeanor, two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both simple misdemeanors, Driving while Suspended, a simple misdemeanor, and multiple other traffic offenses.

Flaugh was transported to the Osceola County Jail in Sibley and is being held on a $6,300 cash or surety bond. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sheldon Police Department and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
