Sioux Center, Iowa — An Alton man was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center recently.
The Sioux Center Police Department reports that 58-year-old Jeffrey Holtz of Alton was driving a 2011 Chevy eastbound on Seventh Street Northwest in Sioux Center. Sixty-two year-old Lynn Buseman of Alcester was westbound on Seventh in a 2003 Ford pickup.
The report says that the Buseman pickup was making a left turn to go west on Seventh Street Northwest from Sixth Avenue Northwest, after stopping at the stop sign. Buseman advised that the Holtz vehicle was eastbound at a high rate of speed. He says the Holtz vehicle failed to stop for the stop sign and collided into the rear driver’s side of the Buseman pickup, causing disabling damage to the Buseman pickup.
The report says that after the collision, Buseman told the officer that the Holtz vehicle left the scene and continued east. It was later discovered that the Holtz vehicle left the roadway and hit a mailbox on the south side of the road. The Holtz vehicle then reentered the roadway and continued east. It left the roadway again and drove over a “no parking” sign.
The front passenger side of the Holtz vehicle then collided with the rear passenger side of a parked 2007 Chevy Avalanche that had been parked outside of a garage. The vehicle then stopped.
It is believed that Holtz had a medical condition that was the cause of the accidents.
The Sioux Center Ambulance took Holtz to Sioux Center Health hospital.
Holtz’s Chevy sustained $5000 in damages, and Buseman’s Ford pickup sustained $4500 in damages, which was enough to total the vehicle. The parked Chevy Avalanche sustained about $500 in damages. The mailbox and sign were valued at $200, each.
No charges were filed.
