Alton Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident

Alton, Iowa– An Alton woman was taken to the hospital after an accident in Alton on Friday, August 25, 2023.

The Orange City Police Department reports that at about 9:00 a.m., 79-year-old Phyllis Van De Griend of Alton was driving a 2018 Chevy northbound on Third Avenue, in Alton. They tell us that 52-year-old Kenneth Wendler of Michigan was westbound on Highway 10 in a 2024 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer.

The report says that after stopping for the stop sign, Van De Griend proceeded into the intersection and struck the driver’s side of the semi trailer.

The Orange City Ambulance took Van De Griend to Orange City Health System Hospital. Wendler reported no injuries.

Van De Griend’s Chevy sustained $15,000 in damages, and Wendler’s Peterbilt sustained $10,000 in damages.

Van De Griend was charged with a stop sign violation.
