Rock Valley, Iowa — A garage and its contents were destroyed and other property was damaged in a fire on Monday, December 4, 2023, in Rock Valley.
According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, at about 2:10 a.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a garage fire at 1229 15th Street, in the northwest part of Rock Valley.
The chief says the fire department saw the single stall detached garage fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says a neighbor’s fence and house, and another neighbor’s deck and house all received some damage as well.
Eshuis says no injuries were reported. He says while Hull firefighters normally respond to structure fires in Rock Valley, they were told they could turn around before they got there, as the Rock Valley firefighters had it under control.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Chief Eshuis reports that the garage was totaled in the blaze, along with all its contents, including a mower, a generator, two string trimmers, and more. He says the fence received major damage, the neighbor’s deck received moderate damage, and the siding on one of the neighbor’s houses may need to be replaced.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
