Meriden, Iowa — A machine shed and its contents were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, near Meriden, and firefighters from seven northwest Iowa fire departments helped extinguish the blaze.
According to Meriden Fire Chief Rusty Rasmus, at about 7:00 p.m., the Meriden Fire Department was called to the report of a barn fire at 4642 Middle Road, three and a half miles north and a mile and a half east of Meriden or seven and a half miles southwest of Calumet.
The chief says the fire department saw a machine shed fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they started fighting the fire on the open end of the building, with the Cherokee department doing what they could to protect the other end.
Rasmus says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Aurelia, Cherokee, Cleghorn, Marcus, Larrabee, and Paullina fire departments.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
