Texas Man Faces Felony Charge For Allegedly Stealing Lottery Ticket

Sheldon, Iowa — A 21-year-old Texas man was arrested Friday evening on a felony charge following an incident at Casey’s West in Sheldon.

According to court records, 21-year old Anthony Thomas Winders of Magnolia, Texas, is accused of stealing a lottery ticket from the convenience store.

Police say that while Winders was at the counter at Casey’s he asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. Authorities say that, while the clerk had her back turned looking for the cigarettes, Winders allegedly reached around the lottery ticket dispenser and removed a $30 lottery ticket, which he allegedly slipped into his right rear pocket. Court records indicate the ticket was visible in his pocket as he walked from the store with some coworkers.

Police report the ticket that Winders is accused of taking was the last one of its kind in the lottery dispenser, and the clerk reportedly knew immediately that it was missing.

According to court records, the incident was captured on security video, which was turned over to police.

Winders was reportedly arrested and transported to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar, charged with Stealing a Lottery Ticket, which is a Class D Felony.
