Sheldon, Iowa — Two Sheldon teens were taken to the hospital after a crash in Sheldon on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
The Sheldon Police Department reports that at about 5:00 p.m., 55-year-old Curtis Van Voorst of Sioux Center was driving a 2023 Ford pickup and a trailer westbound on Highway 18 in eastern Sheldon. They tell us that 19-year-old Owen Brouwer of Sheldon was southbound on Country Club Road in a 2018 Jeep SUV.
The report says that the Brouwer Jeep was stopped at the intersection. Brouwer proceeded from the stop sign directly in front of the Van Voorst pickup and trailer, and the vehicles collided. The Jeep is said to have rolled at least two times before landing on its wheels.
SCAT took Brouwer and a passenger in his vehicle, 16-year-old Aspen Van Holland of Sheldon, to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
Van Voorst’s Ford pickup sustained $3,000 in damages, and Brouwer’s Jeep SUV was considered totaled, with an estimated $8000 in damages.
Brouwer was charged with failure to yield upon entering a through highway.
Officers tell us the Sheldon Ambulance Team, Sheldon Fire Company, Sheldon EMA, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
