Fire Damages Range, Kitchen In Alton

Alton, Iowa — A home was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, in Alton.

According to Alton Fire Chief Quintin Van Es, about 9:30 p.m., the Alton Fire Department was called to the report of a stove fire at 906 East 6th Avenue in Alton.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke coming from the main entrance as they approached the scene. He says they made entry and found no active fire, but the stove had been on fire. He says they removed the stove and found that it appeared to have started in the control panel, but the occupants told them that they had had a grease fire. That fire had apparently run out of fuel and dissipated. Van Es says that was good as it was beginning to grow and threaten other parts of the kitchen. He says there is smoke damage to the kitchen and some other parts of the home, and the stove was destroyed, but no injuries were reported.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour. The fire department was assisted by the Orange City Fire Department, Alton Ambulance, and Orange City/Alton Police Department.
