Kitchen Sustains Damage In Fire

Doon, Iowa — A home’s kitchen was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, near Doon.

According to Doon Fire Chief Blake Van Bemmel, at about 3:40 p.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a kitchen fire at 2595 Eagle Avenue, four miles west of the south side of Doon.

The chief says the stove and microwave had been on fire. He says they tore down a piece of the ceiling to make sure there was no fire or smoldering in the rafters. He says the Rock Valley Fire Department assisted them on the scene.

Van Bemmel says no injuries were reported.

He tells us the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature, but officially they’re not sure what happened. He says the fire appears to have started in a corner of the stove, but the occupants told them that they had not been using the stove at the time of the fire.

Chief Van Bemmel reports that the damage was limited to the kitchen, the microwave, and the stove.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
