Northwest Iowa Man Behind Bars, Charged With Burglarizing Paullina Building

Paullina, Iowa — A northwest Iowa man is behind bars, facing a felony charge after he was arrested on Saturday.

According to criminal complaints filed by Sutherland Police Officer Jami Webster, on December 7th, she was called to a commercial building on North Cannon Street in Paullina. The owner of the property reported a burglary.

Webster says that the owner had video surveillance running, and after reviewing the footage, the owner believes that 34-year-old Benjamin Stanley (whose address is listed in Alton in one document and Larrabee in another) allegedly broke into the property. Webster says the surveillance footage shows a subject breaking into the building with a screwdriver and walking over to the shelf of power tools where the subject grabbed four items and walked out of the property.

Officer Webster’s statement says that the owner of the property was able to identify the subject as Stanley due to the fact that Stanley worked for him for about ten months and, according to the owner and officer Webster, has allegedly stolen property from the owner before.

Stanley was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony; along with misdemeanor offenses of fourth-degree theft, fifth-degree criminal mischief, and trespassing.

At last report, he remained in the O’Brien County Jail.
